Mandate of the Branch

  • To provide the valuable research references for the research conducted by the institute.
  • To dissemination the research knowledge among the users.

SFRI library and information center is a prominent library of the state of Madhya Pradesh in the field of forestry. It houses books, reports, Indian Forest Records, Working Plans, Working Schemes, Forest resource surveys and Sanctuary Plans. Apart from the research staff of the Institute, forest officers, scientists and technical staff make use of the library facilities. Students, research scholars from various institutes and universities also visit the library regularly.

The library and Information Centre maintains literature on forestry and allied subjects. It has books on environment, silviculture, forest protection, mensuration, management, marketing, utilization, social forestry, biodiversity, ecology, botany, tissue culture, tree improvement, law, medicinal plants, wild life, seed scheme and computer science, etc.

INSTITUTE HAS LIBSOFT LIBRARY SOFTWARE. WITH THE HELP OF SOFTWARE ALL THE REQUIRED INFORMATION OF RESEARCHERS AND SCHOLARS PROVIDE FASTLY AND ACCURATELY.

Activities

  • Maintenance of general and specific ledger files. At present, 250 general and 161 specific ledger files are being maintained. The research findings published in various journals/bulletins and reports, etc. were photocopied and added regularly in the respective ledger files.
  • Documentation of technical literature on forestry research.
  • Documentation of research articles published in different Journals, Magazines, Newsletters, Bulletins, Vaniki Sandesh, Annual Research Report and Extension series.
  • Documentation of final reports of the projects financed by external agencies.
  • Publication of quarterly journal “Vaniki Sandesh”, technical bulletins and extension series.
  • Sale of SFRI publications.
    • A quarterly journal “Vaniki Sandesh” covering articles on forestry research in the institute and elsewhere is published by the institute. Vaniki Sandesh is circulated to officers of the state forest department, research institutes, universities and individuals. The annual subscription is fixed at Rs. 150/- for individuals and Rs. 300/- for institutions.
    • Sale of Publications : The institute has published 61 technical bulletins and 52 extension series till date which are available for sale.
    • Journal Section : The branch is well furnished with a reading room. During the year 18Indian journals, were subscribed for reference to the users.

About Ledger Files

This Branch deals with ledger filling and maintenance of journals according to Oxford System of Classification and is systematically arranged in the filling cabinets. At present 161 specific and 250 general ledger files are being maintained by the branch. The research findings published in various journals, bulletins and reports, etc were regularly photocopied and updated in the respective ledger files. The ledger files are basically the compilation work and are very useful to research fellows, scientists and specialists in the concerned subject, which have important information in respect of review of literature also.
