Environmental Impact Assessment Cell

This cell is coordinated and facilitated all the activities concerning the environmental impact assessment (EIA) and preparation of environmental management plans (EMPs) for river valley, mining and other developmental projects as and when this task is assigned to the institute by the project proponents for getting environmental clearance (E.C.) under the Environmental Protection Act, 1986 in accordance with the directions issued under the EIA notification of the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEFCC), Govt. of India, in force at that time. The cell is responsible for discharging the following functions:

  1. To take all necessary steps for obtaining the accreditation to the institute to conduct EIA from the National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET) under the Quality Council of India (QCI)

  2. To take all necessary steps for obtaining accreditation to the institute laboratories from the National Accreditation Board  for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) under the QCI

  3. To take timely action for periodic renewal of the above-mentioned accreditations.

  4. To actively contact with various potential project proponent agencies and also take necessary action for participation in the tendering process, if required, for obtaining the consultancies for EIA/EMP

  5. To assign the tasks of conducting discipline-specific field investigations required for EIA and preparation of respective chapters of the EMPs to available accredited domain experts.

  6. To outsource this task to accredited outside experts in case of those disciplines for which in-house accredited experts are not available.

  7. To coordinate with and facilitate the appointed experts (in house or outside) and monitor the progress of their work.
